In a heated exchange on Monday, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller brought a whirlwind of debate as he confronted CNN’s Boris Sanchez about the alleged violent actions of leftist groups and the challenges faced by federal law enforcement in Chicago.

Sanchez, attempting to provide a protective narrative for certain politicians and their supportive activists, found himself on the defensive as Miller challenged his assertions.

The clash intensified when Sanchez referred to the escalating protests in cities like Portland and Chicago as merely “rowdy.” Seizing the moment, Miller retorted, “Wow, you walked right into that one,” as he drew a contrast between the comprehensive responses seen in Texas and the more chaotic environments in Oregon and Illinois, where local officials seemed to be exacerbating the turmoil by limiting police actions.

According to reports from The Gateway Pundit, federal agents from CBP and ICE faced a “coordinated assault” from a group of approximately ten vehicles while responding to rioters actively resisting law enforcement. Alarmingly, Chicago police received orders to disregard federal distress signals, a tactic Miller underscored when Sanchez insisted, “They’ve been arresting folks on the ground,” reflecting a disconnect between narratives.

“We literally have the 911 audio of this stand down order in Chicago, and we have meticulously documented every unaddressed 911 call over recent weeks and months,” Miller asserted confidently.

WATCH:

Sanchez: You assert these are terrorists, but based on what we’ve observed, incidents involving violence appear to be less about rebellion and more about protests getting out of hand. Isn’t there a possibility that Republicans might face backlash if a future Democratic president deploys the National Guard to quell disturbances in a red state, framing them as insurrections?

Miller: Posting pictures of their families while having a sniper set up on a building to shoot at an ICE facility is a “demonstration”? Engaging in vehicle assaults is merely a “demonstration”? Seriously?

Sanchez: Yet, the National Guard isn’t being deployed to Dallas, where that sniper incident occurred.

Miller: Precisely because the Dallas Police Department and the state governor have responded to every appeal for assistance, while in Chicago and Portland, there were directives to stand down. Imagine—there are approximately 11,000 federal law enforcement officers in Oregon, a force larger than that of the FBI. Local agencies are fully equipped to handle such unrest, but they were ordered to withdraw, placing a demand on the National Guard and federal troops to fill the void.

Sanchez: They’re making arrests, contradicting what you’re saying.

Miller: We have the recordings and evidence to back that up. The 911 calls were ignored due to this stand-down order.

Further into the discussion, Sanchez aligned himself with Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s comment about federal agents allegedly racially profiling individuals, particularly those of color. To this, Miller retorted curtly, calling the question “dumb” before Sanchez attempted to craft a narrative suggesting Miller had implicitly confirmed the allegations. After a convoluted exchange, Miller, chuckling, firmly rejected the claim, stating, “My full answer is no, that is a lie and it’s a dumb question!”

WATCH:

Sanchez: So, as framed by Pritzker, are you asserting that there is racial profiling in your immigration initiatives? Is this crackdown aimed at people of color?

Miller: Such a question is absurd! It’s crucial to recognize that illegal immigrants are competing with American citizens—not just for jobs, but for health benefits and educational resources. We cannot allow unlawful immigrants to receive preferential treatment over American citizens. You know it, and so do I.

Sanchez: So, that’s not exactly a no, Stephen. Could you unequivocally clarify—

Miller: I already called it a dumb question. No is the answer; repeat after me—no, it’s a dumb question. Is that too hard to understand?
