Reports from Fort Stewart in Georgia indicate that five soldiers were shot on Wednesday, leading to a lockdown at the Army base until the shooter was apprehended. The conditions of the soldiers and the details surrounding the shooting remain unclear at this time, and the identity of the shooter has not been disclosed. The Army has launched an investigation into the incident.

The injured soldiers were treated and transferred to Winn Army Community Hospital, with base officials confirming that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Law enforcement responded to the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team complex prior to the shooter’s arrest at 11:35 a.m. The lockdown lasted approximately an hour, prompting nearby schools to implement precautionary measures.

Fort Stewart’s 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team complex remains on lockdown. The unit, also known as the “Spartan Brigade,” is recognized as the Army’s most modern land fighting force and was established in 2016.

Located southwest of Savannah, Fort Stewart is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River and is home to thousands of soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division and their families. The incident has impacted the fort’s three elementary schools, which are currently under lockdown.
