Flights Grounded at DC-Area Airports Due to Strong Odor

On Friday night, flights were grounded at three major airports in the DC area due to a “strong odor” emanating from an air traffic control center, according to officials.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced a ground stop at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, and Baltimore-Washington International Airport in a statement.

Richmond International Airport in Virginia was also affected by the ground stop, according to Duffy.

The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the source of the odor coming from the Potomac TRACON facility, which is impacting operations at the airports.

Potomac Consolidated TRACON is responsible for providing air traffic control services to the affected airports.
