Former Today Show Host Matt Lauer Considering TV Comeback Despite Sexual Misconduct Allegations
After being fired in 2017 amidst a slew of sexual misconduct allegations, including accusations of rape, former Today Show host Matt Lauer is reportedly eyeing a return to television.
One of the most prominent accusers, Brooke Nevils, an assistant producer to Lauer’s former co-host Meredith Vieira, came forward with allegations that Lauer assaulted her in his hotel room during their coverage of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
In a statement addressing the allegations, Nevils stated, “There’s the Matt Lauer that millions of Americans watched on TV every morning for two decades, and there is the Matt Lauer who this morning attempted to bully a former colleague into silence.”
Nevils continued, “His open letter was a case study in victim blaming. I am not afraid of him now. Regardless of his threats, bullying, and the shaming and predatory tactics I knew he would (and now has) tried to use against me.”
Despite the serious allegations and public backlash, Lauer seems to be considering a potential comeback to television. While the possibility of his return has sparked controversy and outrage, it remains to be seen whether networks will be willing to give him a second chance in light of the allegations against him.
