In east Los Angeles, four individuals suffered gunshot wounds close to a gathering of fans celebrating the England vs. Mexico World Cup match, which ended with England winning 3-2.
Authorities received alerts of three separate shootings, one of which occurred on Whittier Boulevard, shortly after 9:40 p.m. on Sunday, according to a spokesperson from the LA Sheriff’s Department.
The four injured individuals were taken to the hospital, though the severity of their injuries remains unclear.
The LASD confirmed there were no fatalities, noted that no suspects have been apprehended, and stated that a motive is yet to be established.
Whittier Boulevard is a well-known venue for Mexican-American celebrations, often attracting large crowds during significant events like the World Cup.
Earlier on Sunday, Los Angeles Police Department leaders issued a city-wide tactical alert, a measure that ensures officers remain on duty until they are instructed otherwise, according to KNBC.
This strategic alert is designed to guarantee that law enforcement agencies have sufficient personnel available in case of any disturbances.
