France TV Distribution has taken on the critically-acclaimed social thriller “Laura’s Treatments,” which recently achieved top honors at the La Rochelle Fiction Festival. The international distributor is set to kick off sales at next week’s Mipcom event in Cannes.
Produced by Tetra Media Fiction and Torcello, this four-part series features Valérie Bonneton (“Little White Lies”) in the role of Laura, a pharmacist in a small town who organizes a support group for survivors of domestic violence. When one of the attendees is murdered before her eyes and another’s cry for help is ignored, Laura is pushed to take matters into her own hands. Driven by grief and indignation towards a system that neglects these issues, she seeks justice. But how far is she willing to go to protect the women she is committed to helping?
As stated in an interview with Le Parisien, co-creators Marie Kremer and Frédéric Krivine (“A French Village”) emphasized that the story, while fictional, is rooted in pressing social realities. Kremer expressed the intention to address “the lack of justice for women” by sharing the journey from a perspective that allows viewers to relate closely to Laura, who is not a direct victim herself.
Director Akim Isker noted that Bonneton’s character symbolizes “us, the audience,” embodying an ordinary individual who feels compelled to act when societal structures fail. “We’re not providing answers,” he elaborated. “Our goal is to provoke questions and ignite discussions.”
For Bonneton, filming was among the most emotionally taxing experiences of her career. “It was painful and extremely challenging. I was deeply moved,” she reflected, recalling her interactions with real survivors of domestic abuse and the stark statistics revealing that in 2025, 113 women in France were victims of fatal violence by a partner or former partner, down from 118 in 2024.
“We all are aware of women who have faced such situations,” Bonneton remarked. “I have too. Each year, 200,000 women lodge formal complaints, yet countless others remain silent due to fear. I resonate with Laura — she can’t tolerate it any longer. She recognizes that more women’s lives are at stake, and she takes action. It surpasses her, transcending logic, bordering on sacrifice. I hope this series can instigate change. I am determined to amplify the voices of these women.”
