Crunchyroll made a big splash at Anime Expo on July 4th by unveiling the first trailer for “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” Season 2. Fans were treated to a sneak peek of the highly anticipated return of the fantasy series, along with the exciting news that Crunchyroll has secured worldwide streaming rights for a January 2026 release.
The announcement was made during a panel hosted by Crunchyroll at the Peacock Theater in downtown LA. The streaming platform has obtained rights for all territories except Asia, with the inclusion of India and the Indian subcontinent in the deal. Fans can look forward to a simulcast of the new season from Japan.
Key talent from the series, including Japanese voice actor Chiaki Kobayashi, producer Yuichiro Fukushi, and composer Evan Call, shared their experiences working on the show and teased what fans can expect from the upcoming season. Fukushi revealed that Tomoya Kitagawa will be directing Season 2, with Keiichiro Saito serving as supervising director.
The creative team for Season 2 includes assistant director Daiki Harashina, series composition by Tomohiro Suzuki, and character design by Takasemaru, Keisuke Kojima, and Yuri Fujinaka. Concept art will be handled by Seiko Yoshioka, with Evan Call returning to compose the music.
Based on the ongoing manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” is produced by Madhouse, known for popular series like “Yu Yu Hakusho,” “Death Note,” and “One-Punch Man.” The first season of the show received critical acclaim and multiple awards at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
The story follows Frieren, an immortal elven mage who embarks on a journey to understand humanity and confront her regrets after defeating the Demon King with her human companions. The series features a talented voice cast in both Japanese and English versions.
