Raymond Saunders, a renowned artist who passed away last summer at the age of 90, has left a lasting impact on the art world. While he is most closely associated with his hometown of Oakland, experiencing his multimedia paintings in person at David Zwirner in Los Angeles serves as a poignant reminder of California’s rich and prolific tradition of Black artistry.

The exhibition at David Zwirner, located at 616 N. Western Avenue, showcases Saunders’ work from February 24 to April 25. It provides art enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant and thought-provoking creations of this talented artist.

Another must-see event in the LA art scene is the Amity Group Exhibition titled “I Did It Myself.” Curated by Jed Moch, the exhibition is hosted at Laurel Canyon’s historic Wohlstetter House and features works by artists such as Issy Wood, Ed Ruscha, Faith Icecold, and John Waters. This group show promises to offer a diverse and engaging art experience for visitors.

The exhibition at Wohlstetter House runs from February 25 to March 2 and is available by appointment only. It is a fantastic opportunity to explore local architecture while enjoying the works of some of the most talented artists in the industry.

For fans of Barry McGee, the “99Ā¢” exhibition is a must-see event. Collaborating with Jeffrey Deitch and the Hole, McGee has transformed a former 99 Cents Only store on Wilshire Boulevard into a pop-up gallery filled with his unique and innovative artwork. This temporary exhibition pays homage to the iconic 99 Cents Only Stores that closed down two years ago, offering visitors a chance to experience McGee’s creative vision in a nostalgic setting.
