Kevin Dibley, a boat designer with a passion for crafting vessels that sail the world’s waters, may seem out of place in a landlocked South Island town like Queenstown. Yet, from the comfort of his home in Jack’s Point, he designs boats of all shapes and sizes, from radio-controlled models to superyachts.

Born in Calgary, Canada, to a Kiwi father and a Canadian mother, Kevin’s upbringing revolved around boats. His family moved to Vancouver Island when he was just four years old so his father could fulfill his dream of building a boat. Growing up on a cutter near Gabriola Island, Kevin gained valuable experience in the shipyard/chandlery business.

After studying mechanical engineering at Canterbury University in New Zealand, Kevin embarked on a career in yacht design that led him to work with renowned designers and sailmakers around the world. In 1995, he founded his own company, Dibley Marine, focusing on custom-made designs for international clients.

Despite his global reach, Kevin still calls Queenstown home, where he enjoys the tranquility of Jack’s Point and the scenic beauty of Lake Wakatipu. He continues to push the boundaries of boat design, with projects ranging from Olympic rowing hulls to traditional Samoan boats.

Kevin’s innovative designs have earned him recognition in the industry, including the prestigious ‘Yacht Designer of the Year’ award. His knack for combining modern functionality with timeless aesthetics has attracted clients from around the world, seeking his expertise in creating unique vessels.

As he looks towards the future, Kevin remains dedicated to his craft, exploring new opportunities to showcase his talents and bring his passion for boat design to life. With a keen eye for detail and a deep appreciation for the art of sailing, Kevin Dibley continues to make waves in the world of yacht design.
