The “Midnight Smashers” Strike Again: NYC Bodega Owners Offer Reward for Capture

City bodega owners have had enough of the brazen bandits known as the “Midnight Smashers” who have been on a rampage, snatching ATMs in 49 robberies across New York City. In response to the ongoing thefts, the United Bodegas of America has announced a $5,000 reward for anyone who can help capture the elusive criminals.

According to reports, the three-man crew has been causing chaos in delis across the city, ripping out ATMs and making off with tens of thousands of dollars over a three-month period. The relentless attacks have left hardworking owners devastated, both financially and emotionally.

Fernando Mateo, a spokesperson for the UBA, expressed outrage at the situation, stating, “These attacks are unlike anything we’ve seen before. It’s unacceptable that small business owners, the backbone of our city, are being targeted like this. They deserve better protection, and it’s time for city officials to step up.”

The thieves have been using stolen cars as getaway vehicles during the heists, which have taken place in upper Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens. Once inside the bodegas, they quickly loot the ATMs and other goods before fleeing the scene.

In a shocking incident captured on video, two of the suspects were seen removing wires from an ATM and carrying the money machine out of a bodega in East Elmhurst. The crew has also made off with $40,000 in cash during two previous robberies.

Despite the NYPD’s efforts, the suspects remain at large. The UBA is now urging Mayor Eric Adams, Governor Kathy Hochul, and law enforcement to prioritize the safety of bodegas and small businesses. They are calling for increased police presence, enhanced security measures such as panic buttons, and support for armed protection for bodega workers to prevent future attacks.

Radhames Rodriguez, president of the UBA, emphasized the importance of bodegas in communities and condemned the criminals for threatening their livelihoods and safety. He questioned why the perpetrators have not been apprehended yet, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

As the hunt for the “Midnight Smashers” continues, bodega owners and residents alike are hoping for swift justice and an end to the reign of terror plaguing their businesses.
