Hulu is making a big change for the upcoming Season 13 of “Futurama” by switching to an all-at-once binge model. According to Variety, all 10 episodes of the new season will premiere simultaneously on September 15 at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET.
This marks a departure from the previous two seasons of the revival, which were released on a weekly basis. Originally airing on Fox from 1999 to 2003, “Futurama” was later revived with direct-to-DVD specials from 2007 to 2009 and then on Comedy Central from 2010 to 2013. The show was brought back by Hulu in July 2023.
For viewers who prefer a more traditional viewing experience, “Futurama” Season 13 will also debut on linear cable network FXX on the same day at 8 p.m. ET, with two episodes airing weekly.
Hulu revealed that “Futurama” was among the top 10 streaming originals of 2024, leading to the decision to renew the show for two more seasons, extending it through Season 14 in 2026. The show has had a complicated history with season counts due to DVD releases and Comedy Central’s unique scheduling.
The synopsis for Season 13 promises plenty of excitement, with Bender going rogue, a volcano on the brink of eruption, Fry facing competition for Leela’s affections, and Dr. Zoidberg’s surprising journey to the heavens.
The cast of “Futurama” includes John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil Lamar, and David Herman. Created by Matt Groening and developed by Groening and David X. Cohen, the show has won two primetime Emmys for outstanding animated program.
Despite its futuristic setting, “Futurama” is known for its satirical commentary on contemporary life. The series follows Fry, a pizza delivery boy who wakes up in the year 3000 after being cryogenically frozen in 1999. Alongside Bender and Leela, Fry embarks on adventures across the universe with the crew of the Planet Express Delivery Company.
