Samsung is gearing up to surprise us with a new smart ring in early 2025. The much-anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event, scheduled for January 22, is expected to unveil not only the Galaxy S25 series but also the second generation of Samsung’s smart ring.
The original Galaxy Ring was unveiled in stages, starting with teasers at the Galaxy S24 series launch in January 2024, followed by a full launch in July. In contrast, the Galaxy Ring 2 is rumored to launch earlier in the year to create a 12-month refresh cycle. Samsung may also introduce its first XR headset at the Unpacked event.
The strategic move aims to position the Ring 2 as a direct competitor to Oura, which has sold over 2.5 million smart rings since its inception in 2013. Oura recently launched the Oura Ring 4, prompting Samsung to up its game with the Galaxy Ring 2.
Leaker Max Jambor initially reported that the original Galaxy Ring would receive two additional sizes: size 14 and size 15. However, DigiTimes now suggests that these sizes will be available on the Galaxy Ring 2 instead. This would bring the total number of sizes to 11, although it still falls short of the size range offered by the Oura Ring 4.
The Galaxy Ring 2 is expected to feature more precise health data sensors, improved AI-driven functionalities, and a battery life of over seven days. However, there is no confirmation yet on whether NFC support will be included in this iteration.
