California Governor Gavin Newsom was seen enjoying a wine-tasting event at his vineyard in Napa Valley while anti-ICE protests erupted in Los Angeles. The event, known as “Vineyard Vibes,” was held at the Odette Estate Winery to raise funds for the PlumpJack Foundation, founded by Newsom’s sister, on June 7.

Despite the chaos unfolding in Los Angeles, Newsom was spotted casually sipping wine in a V-neck T-shirt and baseball cap at the fundraiser. The witness who photographed him expressed shock at his demeanor while the city was experiencing violent protests.

While Newsom enjoyed the wine event, downtown Los Angeles faced riots with rioters throwing Molotov cocktails and vandalizing federal buildings. President Trump intervened by sending in the National Guard, a move opposed by Newsom.

Despite the escalating situation in Los Angeles, Newsom spent around 90 minutes at the fundraiser before Trump deployed troops. The event featured live jazz music, local pizza, and smash burgers, offering a “contemporary yet sophisticated” experience.

A spokesperson for the governor’s office clarified that Newsom attended the fundraiser in honor of his late mother who died of breast cancer. The PlumpJack Foundation, focused on cancer prevention and poverty alleviation, is a cause close to Newsom’s heart.

Newsom, who co-founded Odette Estate Winery, has faced criticism in the past for being out of touch with the public. His attendance at social gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic and his response to Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops have drawn scrutiny.

Following backlash for attending a dinner party during the pandemic, Newsom apologized for his actions and acknowledged the need to model better behavior. The ongoing legal battle between Newsom and Trump over the National Guard deployment continues as they clash over restoring order in California.
