Kirsten Storms provided an update regarding her health on Monday evening, informing fans of “General Hospital” that she is set to undergo a surgical coiling procedure within the next two weeks. This is meant to address a brain aneurysm identified in a scan conducted back in January.
In a social media post, the beloved soap opera star, who has been a part of “General Hospital” for two decades, shared that the finding left her feeling quite unsettled. She expressed her desire to share this news, stating, “Although my brain seems to be somewhat lowkey against me, it helps remind me that we all face challenges at times. If possible, we will strive to do what’s best for ourselves and those we care about.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, the coiling procedure entails “inserting a soft, flexible wire into the aneurysm through a catheter. This wire coils within the aneurysm and effectively seals it off from the artery.” This operation acts as a preventive measure to avert the possibility of the aneurysm rupturing.
Storms also addressed a false rumor circulating online, which claimed she had been hospitalized in January due to an attempt to “unalive” herself. In reality, she was attending a consultation with her neurosurgeon for a brain scan focused on monitoring a cyst. “I was baffled that someone would fabricate something so horrendous without understanding the actual reason for my visit,” she stated. “There are certainly a few bad apples out there.”
After relocating from Los Angeles to Tennessee in July, Storms took a break from “General Hospital,” during which her character Maxie has been temporarily portrayed by Nicole Paggi.
“Given that the January scan revealed a new, though *very small*, cyst on my brain stem, it became evident that I needed to implement some changes in my life urgently,” Storms noted in a recent update. “For personal reasons, moving away from Los Angeles was crucial for me. The primary motivation was for my daughter Harper, but it was also significantly about prioritizing my mental and physical well-being.”
Storms previously underwent a craniotomy in 2021 to remove noncancerous cysts from her brain.
Currently, Storms has returned to “General Hospital” through pre-recorded segments but is still on break from the show. In earlier social media posts, she hinted that she might be back to work by December, or even potentially November. She first joined the soap opera in May 2005.
