A man involved in a criminal organization that stole cars to carry out burglaries at over 40 marijuana dispensaries in the Denver area has been sentenced to 30 years in prison, as announced by Denver prosecutors on Monday.

Genero Zuniga, 21, accepted a plea deal and pleaded guilty to three felony charges, including violating Colorado’s Organized Crimes Act, second-degree burglary, and robbery, according to court documents.

Zuniga was apprehended in December and faced charges related to five armed robberies, 21 burglaries, and 11 attempted burglaries, with most targeting marijuana dispensaries, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

The plea agreement resulted in the dismissal of 84 additional charges against Zuniga, such as multiple counts of burglary, attempted burglary, theft, criminal mischief, robbery, menacing, kidnapping, and motor vehicle theft, court records confirm.

Zuniga was among 23 individuals from two organized crime groups arrested for stealing cars to carry out burglaries at marijuana dispensaries, federal firearms licensees, and other businesses between September 2022 and November 2023, as per Denver prosecutors.

The two groups reportedly targeted over 40 marijuana dispensaries and made off with almost $800,000 in cash and property, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
