Ghetts, a well-known British rapper who recently appeared in the Netflix series “Supacell,” has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his involvement in a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old student in London.

According to a report by BBC News, Ghetts, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, pleaded guilty to causing the death of Nepalese student Yubin Tamang as a result of reckless driving. The sentencing took place at the Old Bailey, where Ghetts received a 12-year jail term and a 17-year driving ban.

During the court proceedings, Prosecutor Philip McGhee revealed that Ghetts had consumed alcohol on the night of the fatal accident, with his blood alcohol level being 1.5 times over the legal limit. Ghetts confessed to drinking three glasses of brandy at a restaurant before getting behind the wheel. Tragically, Tamang was struck by Ghetts’ speeding car while crossing the street in northeast London. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Tamang succumbed to his injuries two days later. Shockingly, Ghetts did not stop at the scene of the accident.

Subsequent investigations by the police uncovered a damaged mirror at the crash site, which was linked to Ghetts’ vehicle through its serial number. Ghetts admitted to driving recklessly that night, even running six red traffic lights prior to the collision. He claimed that he was being followed by someone, although no evidence supporting this assertion was found.

In a heartbreaking statement, Tamang’s family expressed their profound grief over the loss of their beloved son. They condemned Ghetts for robbing them of their child’s future and declared that they could never forgive him for his actions.

During the court proceedings, Ghetts’ attorney read out an apology penned by the rapper to Tamang’s family. Ghetts expressed deep regret, shame, and remorse for his role in the tragedy, emphasizing that it was an unintentional act on his part. He acknowledged the pain and suffering he had caused and sought forgiveness from the grieving family.

“This may be the only opportunity I have to offer my apologies,” Ghetts stated. “I am truly sorry for the emotional distress and pain that I have inflicted. It was a grave mistake on my part, and I am filled with remorse.”

The sentencing of Ghetts serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of reckless driving and the devastating impact it can have on innocent lives. May this tragic incident prompt all individuals to exercise caution and responsibility when operating a vehicle on the roads.
