A 4-year-old girl has been rushed to Christchurch Hospital in critical condition after a moped collided with a pram, according to reports.
Emergency services from Hato Hone St John responded to the incident on Riccarton Rd at the Clarence St intersection around 11:55 am on Wednesday. The moped struck a woman who was pushing a pram, resulting in the young girl being injured.
Upon arrival, the police were informed of the situation, and the child was swiftly transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
An eyewitness from Dumplings on Riccarton recounted to The Press that they witnessed a reckless maneuver where the moped rider attempted to overtake a bus and ended up colliding with the woman and the pram.
They described seeing the child being thrown out of the pram during the impact. Another bystander also told The Press that they observed the distraught mother holding her crying and screaming daughter after the accident.
Authorities have stated that they are actively pursuing leads to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and piece together what transpired.
