The Pixel Watch 4 received significant enhancements, such as a repairable design, a new domed screen, and faster charging, earning it the title of ‘Pebble Perfection’ in my review. Given these extensive upgrades, it’s understandable that users might not feel compelled to switch to the Pixel Watch 5.
However, Google has introduced a variety of exclusive features with Wear OS 7, making the Pixel Watch 5 stand out. Despite this, it might not entice Pixel Watch 4 owners to upgrade.

Prior to the release, I anticipated a limited number of new features, with most eventually becoming available to the Pixel Watch 4 and earlier models. Some of these features, like Blood Pressure Trends and Insulin Resistance Trends, will be included in a free upgrade for Pixel Watch 4, PW3, and Fitbit Air users.
Google has provided me with a list of features that are exclusive to the Pixel Watch 5:
- At a glance
- Smart Replies 2.0
- Gemini Intelligence Proactive Suggestions
- Expanded one-handed gestures
- Smart Wake (Alarm) – also available on certain Fitbit devices, including the Fitbit Air
- Auto bedtime experience improvements
- Weave watch face
- Chronograph watch face
- Multicolor (Semantic Colors)
- Tourbillon – Top-tier GPS
- Create Your Watch Face (initially for PW5, later available for PW4 with Q3 OTA)
- Smart-touch & Smart-RSB
- Offline Gemini for device actions
For those who prioritize software features, this selection is indeed impressive, emphasizing the importance of software alongside hardware.

Ultimately, whether the Pixel Watch 5’s features justify its higher price compared to last year will depend on the smartwatch you currently own.
