Google is currently developing a new and more convenient way to add cards to Google Wallet on Android devices.
The latest Google Play Services beta (version 25.16.33) contains code that hints at a feature allowing users to easily add debit and credit cards to Google Wallet with a simple tap.
Tap to add for Google Wallet
References to ânfc add a cardâ and ânfc tap card detailsâ were found in the code, along with instructions to âHold your card close to the back of your device until it vibrates.â This feature seems to be related to the âAdd payment methodâ screen in Google Wallet.
Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, which enables tap-to-pay functionality in stores, will be utilized to allow users to tap card details onto their phones.
All tapped out
While this new method will offer convenience, users may still need to provide the CVV code and undergo a verification process with their bank for security purposes. This could involve receiving a text message code, a call, or a mobile app prompt.
Although there may be compatibility limitations with certain debit or credit cards, the tap-to-add feature is expected to streamline the card adding process for many users.
There is no specific timeline for the rollout of this tap-to-add feature in Google Wallet, but users can anticipate its arrival in the near future.
