Governors Have A Plan To Protect The Midterm Election From Trump

With the Save America Act no longer in play and Trump’s gerrymandering efforts falling short, concerns about the upcoming midterm elections have shifted to other strategies Trump might use to influence the outcome and preserve his party’s power.

Since the federal government has no jurisdiction over elections, which are managed at the state and local levels, any attempt by Trump to interfere would need to come from outside the system.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker discussed on MS NOW the measures being taken by governors to protect their elections from Trump’s influence.

Pritzker stated:

We must understand that we cannot surrender. Allowing an authoritarian to have their way daily results in the erosion of rights, making it increasingly difficult to restore our democracy to its pre-Trump state. This is the first step.

How do we ensure the integrity of the vote?

I’ve engaged with several governors and established an initiative with Governor Polis called Governors Safeguarding Democracy, aimed at protecting the vote.

One approach is preemptively taking legal action to keep ICE, CBP agents, and military personnel away from polling stations.

We must also inform the public of their voting rights. Even if confronted by uniformed individuals with weapons, they cannot prevent you from voting. Overcoming this fear is essential to demonstrate our commitment to restoring democracy. Voter turnout is crucial.

Additionally, organizing volunteers to accompany voters at polling places can prevent intimidation by unauthorized personnel. The presence of ICE, CBP, and National Guard is solely to deter voters, which we oppose. Our goal is simple: ensure eligible U.S. citizens can vote without fear.

The more we communicate and organize escorts, and limit National Guard visibility around polling places, the better. Strategies will vary by state, and governors will decide their approach individually.

Video of Pritzker:

Each state will adopt different measures to protect its elections, but governors are proactively preparing for potential interference from Trump.

Trump lacks sufficient ICE agents and National Guard troops to disrupt elections in all swing and blue states. The military is already stretched thin due to his overseas engagements.

While Trump may not physically disrupt the midterm elections, he might employ tactics like legal challenges to cast doubt on the election’s legitimacy if he loses.

Given concerns about Trump’s potential actions, it’s crucial to recognize that governors are actively working to safeguard democracy and ensure a secure midterm election.
