Actor James Pickens Jr. Reveals Prostate Cancer Diagnosis
Longtime “Grey’s Anatomy” star James Pickens Jr. recently shared some personal news – he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. In a candid interview with Black Health Matters, Pickens opened up about his family history with the disease, stating that prostate cancer has been prevalent among the men in his family.
Despite the grim diagnosis, Pickens remains optimistic as he has never known anyone in his family to succumb to the disease. He shared that his 90-year-old cousin, along with other family members, have successfully battled prostate cancer, giving him hope for his own journey.
Known for his role as Dr. Richard Webber on “Grey’s Anatomy,” Pickens has been a staple on the popular medical drama for all 22 seasons. His talent has also been showcased in other TV shows such as “The Conners,” “Roseanne,” and “The X-Files.”
The diagnosis came after a routine PSA test revealed something suspicious, leading to further investigations including an MRI and biopsy. Fortunately, the tumor was caught early and had not spread, allowing for prompt removal.
Describing his case as a rare variant that is not commonly seen, Pickens emphasized the importance of thorough monitoring and caution in his treatment plan. Despite the rarity of his condition, he is grateful for the early detection and proactive approach taken by his medical team.
