Los Angeles is known for its grandeur and larger-than-life attractions, making Cosm Los Angeles a fitting addition to the city’s landscape. This sports bar, which feels more like a theme park, boasts an 87ft wide screen that immerses viewers in the action as if they were right in the stadium. The experience at Cosm is designed to elevate the way top-level European football is consumed in the United States, attracting fans like Hollywood actor Danny DeVito.

I had the opportunity to compare the Cosm experience to watching a match in person at Fulham’s Craven Cottage stadium. As I made my way to Cosm early in the morning, nursing a hangover with a pricey bloody mary and avocado toast, I found myself among American fans who prefer the authentic European football experience over Major League Soccer. The clips of fans inside Cosm have gone viral, showcasing the venue’s ability to transport viewers to the heart of the game without leaving the comfort of their couch.

Meanwhile, at Craven Cottage, fans braved the remnants of Storm Darragh to witness the clash between Fulham and Arsenal. The atmosphere outside the stadium was electric, with vendors selling matchday scarves and tickets while fans made their way to the historic ground. Inside, the aesthetic charm of Craven Cottage captivated me, with its classic architecture and loyal fan base.

Back at Cosm, the massive screen and premium amenities offered a unique viewing experience, albeit at a hefty price. The luxury service and high-end food and drink options catered to a wealthy clientele, reflecting the trend of professional sports becoming a luxury product in the US. Despite the impressive technology and breathtaking views from the venue’s deck, the steep cost may deter some fans from frequenting Cosm regularly.

As the match unfolded, both at Cosm and Craven Cottage, the highs and lows of football fandom were on full display. From jubilant celebrations to tense moments and technical glitches, the thrill of the game captivated fans on both sides. While Cosm provided a surreal viewing experience with its immersive setup, nothing could quite replicate the raw emotion and atmosphere of being at a stadium in person.

In the end, Cosm offers a novel way to enjoy sporting events, but it falls short of replicating the true matchday experience. The sterile environment and lack of authentic surroundings may leave some fans longing for the sights and sounds of a live game. For me, nothing compares to the energy and passion of being among fellow supporters at a stadium, rain or shine.

As fans dispersed after the match, reflecting on the outcome and debating the team’s performance, the essence of football fandom was palpable in the air. Whether at Cosm or Craven Cottage, the shared joy and heartbreak of the beautiful game united fans in a common bond that transcends distance and technology.
