James Shirah, 22, was accused of driving the SUV that fatally struck 29-year-old Terry Lewis Taylor Jr., who was a groomsman, on Aug. 30. Earlier that day, Shirah and Savanah Collier, 21, had tied the knot. Shirah was charged with second-degree murder and is currently held without bond. Collier, on the other hand, was charged with being an accessory after the fact to a felony.
Reports from the police indicated that Taylor was hit by the speeding SUV around 8 p.m., resulting in severe injuries. He was rushed to the hospital by authorities but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
It was revealed by authorities that Taylor had been involved in a dispute with someone after the wedding. Shirah is accused of intentionally running him over with the SUV.
Nikki Robinson, Taylor’s fiancĂ©e, described him as an “amazing person” in a fundraiser launched to help cover funeral expenses. She mentioned that Taylor leaves behind three children and that she is also expecting a child.
“This was completely unexpected and [a lot] of lives are affected by this loss,” Robinson expressed.
JS reached out to the attorneys representing Shirah and Collier, but did not receive an immediate response. Both Shirah and Collier are set to appear in court for a probable cause conference on Sep. 12.
