Sky Italia to Launch New Gucci Series: “Gucci: Game Over”

Four years after Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci” stirred controversy among the Gucci family and Italian film enthusiasts due to its portrayal of the iconic fashion house’s saga, pay-TV operator Sky has announced a new high-end Italian television series aimed at presenting a more authentic narrative.

Details on “Gucci: Game Over”

The upcoming six-episode series, titled “Gucci: Game Over,” will be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Gabriele Muccino, known for his work on “The Pursuit of Happyness” starring Will Smith, along with a number of successful Italian films and television shows. The series will draw inspiration from a memoir by Allegra Gucci, the daughter of Maurizio Gucci and Patrizia Reggiani, the characters portrayed by Adam Driver and Lady Gaga respectively in “House of Gucci.”

An Authentic Perspective

“We are telling the Italian perspective as a reaction to ‘House of Gucci’ through Allegra Gucci’s eyes,” stated Nils Hartmann, EVP of Sky Studios Italy, during an upfront presentation for Comcast-owned Sky Italia.

The Tragic Background

On March 27, 1995, Maurizio Gucci, the head of the Gucci fashion house and grandson of its founder Guccio Gucci, was tragically murdered outside his Milan office. His ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani, orchestrated the crime and was subsequently convicted in 1998. Allegra Gucci’s memoir, composed of letters addressed to her deceased father, uncovers family secrets, explores her parents’ tumultuous relationship both pre and post-divorce, and delves into the shocking murder details from March 1995.

Feedback from Allegra Gucci

“After ‘House of Gucci,’ I saw the opportunity to narrate this essential story,” remarked Allegra Gucci during the Sky presentation, expressing her disappointment over Ridley Scott’s film as “a missed opportunity to share a genuine and impactful narrative.”

The Complexity of the Gucci Story

“We are presenting a complex story through Allegra’s perspective,” Muccino added. “It is filled with pain, yet also exudes glamour, wealth, and power—the elements that eventually led to the family’s downfall.”

Production and Casting Details

Filming for “Gucci: Game Over” is set to commence in the spring of 2026, with co-production handled by Sky Studios alongside Italy’s Lucky Red. “This is a renowned story on a global scale, thanks to both the brand’s celebrity and the inherent tragedy,” commented Andrea Occhipinti, chief of Lucky Red. He also highlighted that the cast for “Gucci: Game Over” will consist entirely of Italian talent—addressing concerns from Italy’s film community regarding the absence of local actors in leading roles in “House of Gucci.”

International Aspirations

While the series promises to be authentically Italian in its talent, “Gucci: Game Over” is poised for international appeal. “The opportunity to collaborate with Sky on this significant series lends it an international scope,” Occhipinti noted, adding that they are already receiving positive responses from the global market.
