In the early hours of Saturday morning, tragedy struck in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago as a gunman opened fire on a group of people leaving a local restaurant and bar. The shooting, which took place in the 6300 block of North Broadway, left two people dead and a third critically injured. Despite the efforts of Chicago police, the shooter remains at large.

According to witnesses, the victims were targeted as they were exiting the establishment, which holds a late-night liquor license. One victim, a 28-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries at the scene despite CPR efforts by law enforcement. Two other victims, a 31-year-old man and a 36-year-old man, were rushed to separate hospitals for treatment. Tragically, the 31-year-old man passed away at Weiss Hospital, while the 36-year-old man remains in fair condition at Evanston Hospital.

Authorities discovered that the gunman used a stolen Infinity Q50 during the shooting, which was later found engulfed in flames in the 600 block of East 134th Place. The crime scene was marked with numerous evidence markers, indicating the presence of shell casings.

This incident adds to the growing number of shootings in the Edgewater area this year. Excluding a recent accidental self-inflicted shooting, a total of nine people have been shot in the neighborhood in 2025, with three resulting in fatalities. Comparatively, the statistics for previous years on the same date are as follows: in 2024, six people were shot with one fatality; in 2023, two people were shot with no fatalities; and in 2022, six people were shot with one fatality.
