A barrage of gunfire erupted early Friday morning in Back of the Yards, leaving two people dead and five injured, marking one of the city’s most violent incidents this week. More than 50 evidence markers were scattered across the street.
Cook County Crime Stoppers has announced a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest of those responsible for the shooting.
The shooting took place at around 12:26 a.m. on the 5100 block of South Wood Street, as reported by the Chicago police. Witnesses described two masked gunmen approaching a group and opening fire, with automatic gunfire echoing as dozens of rounds were discharged. Investigators identified over 50 shell casings at the scene, highlighting the intensity of the attack.
The Chicago Police Department reported that the ages of the deceased men remain unknown. A 23-year-old woman is in critical condition at Stroger Hospital after being shot in the head. A 54-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman are in fair condition, while two men, aged 21 and 32, are in good condition, according to authorities.
