Han Kang Becomes the First South Korean Author to Win the Nobel Prize in Literature

They question the darkness in life. They are asking for the beauty in life. And for me, writing is a way to understand the world, to communicate with the world.”

As news of the award spread, fans and fellow authors took to social media to congratulate Han on her achievement. The South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism released a statement applauding her win, saying, “Through her work, Han Kang has broadened the horizon of Korean literature and enriched the global literary world.”

Many are excited to see what the future holds for Han Kang and Korean literature as a whole. With the spotlight now on her, Han’s powerful and thought-provoking writing is sure to reach an even wider audience, sparking conversations and connections across borders and cultures.
