On Friday, CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten delivered concerning news for President Donald Trump during his appearance on “News Central.” Enten highlighted that Trump’s net approval rating has not shown a positive outcome in any poll since March 2025.
Enten started by presenting his “Enten’s Aggregate” of polling data, which reflected Trump’s net average approval rating as +6 in January 2025, dropping to -9 by August, and plummeting to a stark -20 today. He noted that this marks “the lowest point of his second term.”
Co-host Sara Snider asked about individual polls, prompting Enten to reveal even more troubling insights for Trump’s supporters.
“I wondered, ‘Have there been any polls recently where Trump did not have a negative net approval rating, unlike the aggregate?’” Enten went on to tease. “And looking back, this truly stands out.”
He elaborated, “Every poll since March 29, 2025—over a year ago—shows Trump with a net negative approval rating. That’s 413 consecutive days where he has been underwater, not just in the aggregate, but in every single poll.”
Enten attributed this significant decline in approval to Trump’s conflict with Iran and the resulting rise in gas prices. He referenced a CNN/SSRS poll conducted between April 30 and May 4, which delivered alarming statistics for the president.
“Look at this,” Enten said, indicating a graphic titled “The Net Effect On Your Personal Finances,” and citing three numbers on his screen. “The tax law is 16 points underwater. Tariffs are 49 points underwater.”
He added, “The Iran War’s impact on finances? Sixty-seven points underwater.”
The poll in question indicated that only 8% of respondents believe the Iran war has a “positive effect,” while 75% view it negatively. Moreover, 76% of those surveyed identified the current cost of living as their primary economic concern.
The unpopular conflict in the Middle East led to Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz, a key channel for global oil, causing gas prices to surge. Enten remarked, “It is no surprise Trump is struggling in every poll. He’s reaching new lows in the aggregate.”
He further argued that voters elected Trump to strengthen the economy, but no significant legislation or events during his second term have managed to offset the effects of his policies on everyday Americans.
“Sixty-seven points underwater?” Enten exclaimed on Friday. “Whoosh.”
