Comedian and actor Aries Spears recently criticized Donald Trump following the New York Knicks’ victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on June 10. Spears attributed the Knicks’ loss in Game 3 to the president’s attendance. For context, Donald Trump was present at Game 3 on June 8 at Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks were narrowly defeated by the Spurs 111-115.

Trump’s presence at the game led to heightened security measures, causing dissatisfaction among Knicks fans. Despite this, the Knicks bounced back to win Game 4 by a score of 107-106 on June 10, taking a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series and boosting their chances of clinching the title.

After the win, Aries Spears used social media to suggest a connection between the Knicks’ success and Trump’s absence, claiming the president’s presence disrupted the “synergy,” “energy,” and “harmonious vibe” of the city. Spears asserted that he anticipated this outcome, stating:

“So, the New York Knicks won tonight. Guess who wasn’t in the crowd? Guess who didn’t have a barricade around the building? Guess who didn’t disrupt the synergy, the energy, the harmonious vibe and energy throughout the city? Do I really need to say his name? He was at Game 3, and they lost, like I predicted they would. He wasn’t at Game 4, and they win it. Coincidence? Bad luck is bad luck, bad energy is bad energy. No Donald Trump, New York wins.”

Aries Spears previously warned Knicks fans about Donald Trump’s bad energy

This was not the first instance of Aries Spears voicing concerns about Trump attending Game 3 of the NBA Finals. On June 8, prior to the game, Spears posted on Instagram, suggesting that Trump’s presence would bring misfortune to the Knicks, writing, “I wish the Knicks luck but man oh man bad energy is bad energy!”

Following the game, Spears reiterated his point in a video, claiming Trump’s presence brought “bad luck and bad energy” and that the security measures disrupted the city’s “ENERGY.” His post read:

“I know it may not seem like it, but I really am rooting for NY but energy is very powerful and the city had ruckus energy putting that barricade around the garden disrupted that ā€œENERGYā€.”

During Game 3, Trump attended with his granddaughter Kai and was met with loud boos from the crowd when shown on the screen during the National Anthem. Despite this, Trump later described the reaction as “amazing,” claiming to have received “mostly cheers.” He commented:

“I mean, I thought it was amazing, actually… You mean when they had the camera on me? I thought it was very good. Yeah. It was certainly amazing. It was, I think, mostly cheers. It was loud and it was very enthusiastic,ā€ he added.

The New York Knicks are set to face the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on June 13 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
