Health NZ’s new CEO, Dr Dale Bramley, has officially been appointed to lead the agency for a three-year term. Dr Bramley, who previously served as the National Director of Planning, Funding and Outcomes, took over the top job in February following the resignation of the agency’s founding CEO, Margie Apa.

Dr Lester Levy, Health NZ Commissioner, announced Dr Bramley’s appointment, highlighting his expertise in driving performance and clinical quality that align with the agency’s strategic objectives. Dr Bramley, a respected figure in the healthcare system, brings a wealth of leadership experience to his new role. As a public health medicine specialist, he led Waitematā District Health Board for over a decade and chaired New Zealand’s Health Quality & Safety Commission.

Dr Bramley, set to officially assume his role on July 14, expressed his commitment to improving health outcomes for all New Zealanders. He emphasized the importance of working collaboratively with healthcare professionals to enhance patient experience and deliver high-quality healthcare services.

In response to Dr Bramley’s appointment, Fleur Fitzsimons, National Secretary of the Public Service Association, acknowledged the challenges facing health services due to insufficient funding. She urged the new CEO to advocate for adequate funding to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services that meet the needs of New Zealanders.

As Dr Bramley steps into his new role, the PSA remains committed to advocating for increased funding and looks forward to working with him and government ministers to address funding challenges in the healthcare sector.
