The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Tuesday that nearly 8,000 criminal gang members who entered the country illegally have been removed from the streets since President Trump assumed office. This announcement followed the sentencing of an alleged MS-13 member to over 50 years in prison for his involvement in two murders in New York City.

“DHS has arrested more than 7,800 criminal illegal alien gang members from American communities since President Trump took office,” stated DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis in a conversation with The Post.

Bis pointed to the case of Ramiro Gutierrez, sentenced on March 11, as a testament to Trump’s stringent immigration policies.

“This MS-13 gang member participated in two brutal murders while illegally in our country,” said the DHS spokeswoman. “This monster is now facing 55 years in prison for these barbaric murders.”

Prosecutors indicated that Gutierrez was the getaway driver and a planner in the November 4, 2018, murder of Victor Alvarenga near his home in Flushing, Queens.

Three months later, Gutierrez and three co-defendants pursued another alleged rival gang member, Abel Mosso, onto the 7 train at the Main Street station in Flushing. Mosso was attacked inside the subway car, dragged onto the platform at the 90th Street station in Jackson Heights, and then shot multiple times by Gutierrez using his own firearm, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.

Gutierrez was detained soon after the subway incident and pleaded guilty last year.

DHS reported that Gutierrez entered the US illegally at an unspecified location and time. The department’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) unit collaborated closely with federal and local law enforcement, playing a crucial role in the investigation, arrest, and successful prosecution of Gutierrez.

Gutierrez was in the country illegally, according to DHS.

“MS-13 is one of the most barbaric criminal gangs in the world,” Bis remarked. “They rape, maim, and murder for sport.”

“President Trump is dismantling transnational criminal gangs,” she added.
