An Alabama grand jury has indicted a married high school teacher and cheer coach, accused of engaging in sexual activity with a male student, authorities report.
Makaela Caldwell Hodgins, a 32-year-old mother of two, was apprehended and her bond has been set at $30,000, according to court documents as noted by 1819News.
The educator from Woodland, Alabama, faces charges for allegedly having sexual relations with a male student under the age of 19, although the specific age of the student has not been disclosed in the legal documents.
Reports indicate that Hodgins has pleaded not guilty to the charges, as noted by 1819News. However, details regarding her subsequent court proceedings remain unreleased.
She commenced her role as the cheer coach at Randolph County High School in Wedowee, Alabama, in 2022, as per a post on the school’s official Facebook page.
“Mrs. Hodgins was raised in Randolph County and cheered for six years at Woodland,” the post elaborated.
She earned a master’s degree in education from the University of West Alabama in May 2022, the same college post stated.
The post revealed Hodgins is “married to her college sweetheart” and has “two beautiful children.”
Additionally, she has dedicated ten years to cheerleading coaching, including judging try-outs, running cheer camps, and choreographing routines.
Requests for comments from both the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and Randolph County High School have yet to receive a response.
