Hilary Duff wore an unforgettable outfit when her third child was born.
In an interview with The Sunday Times on Saturday, April 11, Duff, 38, was asked to finish the sentence, “‘I’ll never forget what I was wearing when.” She responded, “I gave birth to my third child.”
She elaborated, “I was in a spandex turtleneck that I couldn’t get out of because I went into labour so fast. My waters broke so I had no pants on, just a spandex turtleneck. I delivered my baby at home looking like Elizabeth Holmes.”
Duff and her husband Matthew Koma welcomed their third child, daughter Mae, in 2021. She also has a 14-year-old son, Luca, with her ex Mike Comrie. Duff and Koma are also parents to daughters Banks, born in 2018, and Townes, born in 2024.
Before Mae’s at-home birth, Duff had an open discussion with her son Luca about the experience.
“I’m really big on being open and honest with him about how strong women are and what childbirth looks like,” she shared in an episode of “Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast” in 2021. “He knows all about periods, and it’s important to me to normalize that conversation with him for all the women that are gonna be in his life.”
Since then, Duff has shared insights into her parenting journey, telling Us Weekly in 2025 that her daily routine is “pretty chaotic.”
“I’m an overworked mom. You know what I mean? I’m tired. I get into [bed] at night and I stare at the wall, like, ‘What’s happened to me? What was that like?’ But it’s everything that I love, and I wanted it,” she expressed. “All of the moments that seem really hard are fleeting and they go by fast, and then you have the next thing in front of you. There’s so much joy layered in with all of the chaos. So it’s really fun.”
Hilary Duff is expecting her third child with husband Matthew Koma. “Surprise Surprise!” Duff, 36, wrote alongside the family’s holiday card on Tuesday, December 12. In the photo, Duff’s baby bump was prominently visible as she posed with Koma, 36, their daughters, Banks, 5, and Mae, 2, and the actress’ 11-year-old.
Duff also praised her husband for his support during challenging times.
“Oh, [he’s] the best. Are you kidding?” Duff said. “My friends in town right now from Toronto, and I haven’t seen her for a year, and we wanted to get a workout in. So I was like, ‘We’re gonna do a 7 a.m. workout. You got the kids?’ And he’s like, ‘I’m on it. I got the kids.’ He packed lunches and made breakfast and got everybody dressed and drove them to school. Like, he’s in it.”
She added, “He’s so hands-on, and then he’s also my best friend. We get in bed and just download information to each other at night, and it’s for fun. We’re really in the thick of it right now.”
