Hillary Clinton recently expressed uncommon admiration for her former rival Donald Trump regarding his efforts in the Gaza peace negotiations during an interview.
“I truly commend President Trump and his administration,” Clinton stated in her appearance on CBS News 24/7 on Friday.
“And I extend my commendations to the Arab leaders in the region for their commitment to the 20-point plan and envisioning the next steps for a future often referred to as the day after,” she continued.
Clinton’s remarks followed closely after Hamas endorsed Trump’s peace initiative, a surprising shift that could potentially put an end to the two-year conflict that has heavily impacted the Gaza Strip.
The accord, which received enthusiastic support from both Gazans and Israelis, is set to facilitate the release of the remaining 48 Israeli hostages as soon as Monday, with Israeli military withdrawal from the area occurring in phases.
Under this agreement, Hamas will be disarmed, and a transitional governance led by an international coalition will be established to oversee Gaza.
An independent Palestinian state is noted as an “aspiration” for the Gaza population, although the specifics regarding this were not clearly defined in the agreement.
Clinton, who advocated for a two-state resolution while serving as Secretary of State under President Barack Obama, urged the Trump administration to ensure accountability from both Israel and Gazans in adhering to the agreement, along with the global community.
“Let’s unite in supporting this process and work collectively—not just bipartisanship within our country, but genuinely as an international commitment to pursue peace, security, stability, and a brighter future for the Middle East,” Clinton remarked on CBS.
She commended the Trump administration’s strategic move to engage Israel in negotiations following Israeli strikes on Hamas leaders amidst talks in Qatar in September.
“This created an opportunity for President Trump and his representatives to rally all regional powers, including Qatar, and to firmly convey to Israel, ‘Enough is enough. We cannot continue this. This conflict must conclude, and we need to forge ahead,’” Clinton explained.
Clinton is not the only Democratic figure to commend Trump’s role in resolving the Hamas-Israel war.
Jake Sullivan—who previously served as President Biden’s national security advisor—hesitantly recognized Trump’s contributions to the conflict’s resolution.
“It’s only now, after such an extended period, that we have reached an agreement,” he noted.
Former President Obama also acknowledged the deal in a post on X, though he did not reference President Trump in his remarks.
