In a striking display of political rhetoric, Chicago’s Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson has provided a rather vivid illustration of why some might question the competence of our urban leadership. His recent remarks about the Trump administration and the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) suggest that he perceives a parallel between contemporary governance and a hypothetical world where the Confederacy emerged victorious in the Civil War.
It seems the mayor may have overlooked a crucial detail in this historical narrative: the Confederacy was primarily composed of individuals from his own political party, while the Republican Party was established with the mission of abolishing slavery. One might wonder if he’s aware that figures like President Abraham Lincoln and General Ulysses S. Grant were Republicans, not the staunch proponents of the Confederacy.
Breitbart News reports:
Chicago Mayor: Trump Is ‘What U.S. Would Have Looked Like if the Confederacy Won’
In a press conference on Wednesday, Mayor Johnson characterized the Trump administration as “a representation of what our country would resemble had the Confederacy triumphed.” This statement followed a large protest in Chicago against the president’s lawful immigration policies. The mayor did not hold back, labeling Trump a “terrorist” and a “racist” amidst his commentary.
Notably, Johnson holds the distinction of having the lowest approval rating of any mayor in the United States, which perhaps explains his hyperbolic language regarding Trump’s immigration approach, which he previously described as “what terrorism looks like.”
In a previous statement, Johnson asserted, “Federal agents should never be permitted to enter our city and intimidate elected officials or any Chicagoan. Every resident is entitled to due process under the Constitution, and any action contrary to that principle is unconscionable.” This comment came in the wake of a protest against an ICE raid that occurred last week.

One must ponder: if the Confederacy had indeed won, would Johnson even have the right to vote?
Moreover, let’s not forget that the Confederates were, in fact, Democrats. pic.twitter.com/THBnvPQVP6

This is certainly a shining example for the youth of Chicago. One can only wonder why educational performance in the city remains dismally low. If the mayor himself struggles with fundamental historical facts, what hope do the students have?
