A Chicago Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Breaking into Ex-Girlfriend’s Home in Naperville

A Chicago man accused of breaking into a Naperville home where his ex-girlfriend was visiting, only to be confronted and detained by several men who held him until police arrived, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced Tuesday.

Adam Stone, 28, went to a Naperville home where his ex-girlfriend was visiting and broke a basement window to gain entry. Once inside, he fought with the occupants before they forced him outside. About 15 minutes later, Stone threw a landscape brick through the front window and damaged vehicles parked in the driveway. Naperville police found several men holding Stone down outside the residence.

Stone was found guilty of two counts of home invasion, a Class X felony, following a two-day bench trial in April 2025. Judge Margaret O’Connell presided over the trial. Stone was on probation in Cook County for aggravated domestic battery charges at the time of the home invasion.

State’s Attorney Robert Berlin emphasized the importance of feeling safe in one’s home, stating that Stone’s actions not only violated the homeowners’ sense of security but also impacted the entire community. The 20-year sentence serves as a deterrent for violent behavior in DuPage County.
