Violent Assault: Bronx Woman Raped by Suspect in Apartment Building
In a harrowing incident that has shocked the Bronx community, a 36-year-old woman was raped by a homeless man inside her apartment building. The assault occurred early Sunday morning, prompting desperate pleas from the victim, who asked her attacker how much it would cost to make him stop.
The suspect, identified as Kenneth Siriboe, 21, allegedly accosted the victim around 5 a.m. in a residential building located on East Gun Hill Road near Putnam Place in Norwood. According to a criminal complaint, he covered the victim’s mouth with one hand while choking her with the other, making it clear that he intended to inflict harm.
Siriboe reportedly threw the victim to the ground, relentlessly punching her, leading to visible bruises and lacerations, as detailed in court documents.
During the assault, the woman cried out, “No, no! Please stop! How much can I give you to make you stop?” as she struggled against her attacker. After the assault, Siriboe allegedly stole her Coach purse and wallet, which contained $250 in cash, her identification, and keys.
Surveillance footage released by the NYPD captured Siriboe fleeing the scene, pulling up his pants as he descended the stairs of the apartment building, a towel slung around his neck.
Authorities are still investigating how Siriboe managed to access the building, but sources indicate he was present for an extended period before the crime. Following a manhunt, he was arrested on Monday afternoon in another Bronx building, approximately two miles from the attack.
Siriboe faces multiple charges including rape, robbery, burglary, grand larceny, and criminal obstruction of breathing. During his arraignment on Monday evening, a judge set his bail at $30,000.
Siriboe, whose last known address is in Union Beach, NJ, reportedly has no prior arrests in New York City.
This assault follows closely on the heels of other recent rapes in the Bronx. Notably, a repeat offender, Zion Exum, 26, was recently linked to the rape of a 25-year-old woman after being apprehended for jumping a subway turnstile.
Additionally, Xavier Chapman, 30, was arrested for the September 17 rape of a 19-year-old woman sitting on a park bench in Belmont.
Statistics reveal an alarming trend in the Bronx, with a total of 399 rapes reported so far this year, marking a staggering 27% increase from the 314 incidents reported in the same period last year, according to NYPD data. Citywide, there have been 1,504 rape offenses across all five boroughs this year, a 19% rise from the 1,265 offenses in 2024.
Authorities attribute this rise, in part, to “legislative changes” that have broadened the definition of rape and included additional forms of sexual assault.
