The tablet market is dominated by Apple’s iPad, known for its quality but also its high price. The most affordable iPad currently available starts at £329/$349 for just 64GB of storage, making it less appealing for those looking for a device primarily for entertainment purposes like watching Netflix or YouTube. Android tablets, on the other hand, don’t offer many compelling options either. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab series is expensive, while the budget-friendly Tab A series is more focused on general usability rather than a premium content consumption experience.

However, there may be a solution in the form of the Honor Pad V9. Priced at just €250, this tablet offers a surprisingly good audiovisual experience. The 11.5-inch, 2800 x 1840 LCD display delivers vibrant colors, deep blacks, excellent detail, and a fast 144Hz refresh rate, providing a premium viewing experience typically associated with OLED panels. The device’s display is bright enough for visibility even in direct sunlight.

In terms of audio, the Honor Pad V9 boasts eight speakers positioned at either end of the device, delivering rich, full-bodied sound with a good amount of bass. The speakers can get impressively loud without distortion, ensuring a great listening experience for music, dialogue, or special effects. For those who prefer headphones or external speakers, the tablet offers Bluetooth 5.2 and a 3.5mm jack supporting 24-bit hi-res audio.

Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chipset, the Pad V9 offers strong performance for everyday tasks, complemented by the 144Hz refresh rate for a smooth user experience. Running on Android 15, the tablet provides access to a wide range of apps and streaming services.

However, the software experience on the Honor Pad V9 may not be to everyone’s liking. Honor’s MagicOS 9 skin differs significantly from other Android tablets, featuring numerous pre-installed apps and frequent pop-ups that can feel cluttered. While there are useful features, navigating the interface may take some getting used to for users accustomed to a cleaner user experience.

Some uncertainties remain regarding the tablet, such as battery life and software support. With a 10,100mAh battery and 66W fast charging, the actual viewing time and charging speed are factors to consider. Additionally, the longevity of software support, including security updates, is crucial for long-term usability.

Overall, the Honor Pad V9 is a compelling option for movie and TV enthusiasts seeking an affordable tablet with premium audiovisual capabilities. However, for productivity-focused users, other options may be more suitable. Stay tuned for updates on battery life and software support to make an informed decision on whether the Honor Pad V9 is the right choice for your entertainment needs.
