A tragedy has befallen a well-known Christian family from Michigan, previously featured on a TLC reality show, as they navigate an unimaginable loss.
The local sheriff’s office has provided a statement regarding the devastating accident:
The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle “unknown” crash on Deckerville Rd near Hurds Corner Rd on September 26, 2025, at 21:02 hours. Callers on the scene reported multiple injuries.
Upon arriving, TCSO coordinated with various agencies (Fire, EMS, and Police) to administer aid.
The investigation revealed that a 55-year-old man from Florida was driving a loaded commercial semi-truck southbound on Hurds Corner Rd when he failed to stop at a stop sign. This resulted in a collision with a Jeep carrying eight Cass City residents.
Tragically, three occupants of the Jeep were pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining family members were rushed to local hospitals by helicopter and through emergency medical services, with several reported in critical condition.
Both the driver and passenger of the semi-truck sustained minor injuries and the driver has since been arrested. Charges are forthcoming as the case is referred to the Prosecutor’s office.
This investigation is ongoing, and names are being withheld at this time. We urge the public to exercise caution on the roads; the frequency of devastating accidents is alarming.
The Putman family, an iconic figure in the region, was directly impacted when their Jeep was struck by the aforementioned semi-truck. Tragically, Bill and Barb Putman, along with their daughter-in-law, Megan, lost their lives in the incident.
In addition to the deceased, five other family members were traveling in the same vehicle and have been hospitalized, with treatments being administered both by ambulance and through air evacuation.
Dr. Blake Putman, with his late wife Megan by his side, has children aged 15, 11, and 13, who are receiving critical medical attention. A recent video shared on the family’s Facebook page celebrated their daughter Lulu’s 13th birthday, juxtaposing joy and heartbreak.
The Putman family has posted on Facebook, calling for prayers for young Noah Putman, who lost his mother in the tragic accident and is currently clinging to life in the hospital.
Gia Putman, another family member, is also hospitalized in serious condition. The Putman family has expressed their gratitude for the prayers and support in this dark time.
In a heartfelt statement issued less than a day after the calamity, the resilient Christian family has urged for prayers for their loved ones still fighting for their lives while reminding their community of their faith:
Dear Friends and Family,
It is with heavy hearts that we ask for your prayers. Our family has been shattered by a tragic car accident which claimed the lives of Papa, Neenee, and Aunt Megan. They are now at peace with the Lord. Please keep Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah, and Gia in your thoughts as they receive treatment; we pray for their complete recovery.
All members of our family – Papa, Neenee, and every grandchild – hold firmly to our faith in Jesus Christ. Through this heartbreak, we know that God is ever in control.
We find solace in Jesus’ promise of peace in John 14:27, as well as the assurance in Romans 8:28 that all things work together for good for those who love Him. Our greatest comfort rests in the Gospel: that Jesus sacrificed for our sins, granting us eternal life (John 3:16; Romans 5:8).
We cling to the hope that Papa, Neenee, and Aunt Megan are alive in Heaven, rejoicing before Jesus, hearing the words we all yearn to hear:
“Well done, my good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23).
We appreciate every prayer, message, and expression of love during this heart-wrenching time. Your support uplifts us. Please continue to pray that our hearts remain anchored in the truth: Jesus conquered death for our salvation.
With Divine Love,
The Putmans
Following the accident, it’s worth noting that the senior Putman couple built their substantial family home to accommodate all generations under one roof, an arrangement that caught the attention of TLC, leading to a reality show centered around their unique familial bonds.
For a glimpse into their life, here’s a clip from their show aired eight years ago:
Meshawn Maddock, wife of MI State Representative Matt Maddock and well-acquainted with the Putman family, shared her reflections on the tragic events, illustrating the close-knit nature of the family:
Back in 2019, I was invited by Bill Putman Sr. to share coffee in Frankenmuth, Michigan. I was amazed to find seven Putman family members already at the table. Coincidentally, I had brought my daughter Parker, who was engaged with the Trump Campaign. Our meeting felt more like an interview, underscoring the Putmans’ serious approach to Jesus, family, and politics. I have cherished the loyalty and work ethic within their family. Despite differing political perspectives at times, when the Putmans extend a hand to help, they arrive as a formidable team. Our family is committed to praying for their recovery; it will take faith to navigate this valley.
Please join in mourning for Bill, Barb, and Megan Putman, and pray for the swift and full recovery of the remaining five members injured in this tragic accident.
