Last night, the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards 2025 unfolded against the backdrop of Milan Fashion Week. This prestigious awards ceremony brought together leading figures from both Italian and global fashion communities to honor the dedication of designers, artisans, brands, and industry leaders striving for a more circular and sustainable fashion economy.

Under the aegis of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (the Italian Fashion Council) and in partnership with the UN Alliance for Sustainable Fashion, this grand event was hosted at the iconic Teatro alla Scala. Celebrating its fourth iteration, the awards recognized achievements in craft, inventive vision, environmental advocacy, and efforts toward human rights and biodiversity.

Opening the evening was the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, who welcomed attendees to this glamorous gathering. The event also paid tribute to the late Giorgio Armani, with esteemed editor Anna Wintour taking the stage to commemorate the profound impact of the renowned designer. She noted that “He understood power, attitude, and elegance as well as anyone ever has in fashion,” highlighting Armani’s far-reaching influence.

Wintour emotionally expressed, “Being with all of you in honor of Giorgio feels akin to reconnecting with a family I never knew I had. Family is the essence I most associate with Giorgio: his designs possessed a beautiful continuity and always appeared tailor-made for the people he cherished the most.”

She further elaborated, “The name ‘Armani’ has been synonymous with fashion for so long that it’s challenging to encapsulate it within a single moment, image, or undertaking. Giorgio emerged as one of fashion’s frontrunners, a visionary who was well ahead of his time.”

Wintour remarked on Armani’s revolutionary impact, stating, “Before him, elegant suits were merely dull and rigid in form. He transformed formal wear and, in doing so, reshaped the landscape of fashion.” To conclude her heartfelt tribute, Wintour presented the Legacy Award to Armani’s longtime confidants Leo Dell’Orco, Silvana Armani, and Andrea Camerana, honoring their shared journey and commitment to his visionary legacy.
