A Chilling Incident in Manhattan’s Justice System
In a shocking display of violence, a man armed with a knife assaulted two court officers in a Manhattan criminal court on Monday morning. The assailant, identified as 37-year-old Johnathan Wohl, had an extensive criminal history with 18 prior arrests.
Reports indicate that Wohl inflicted serious injuries, slashing one officer in the face and another in the neck. Fortunately, both officers were promptly taken to the hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) categorized this brutal act as a ‘targeted attack,’ raising concerns about safety within the very institutions meant to uphold the law.
According to CBS News,
Two court officers were slashed with a knife Monday inside the lobby of Manhattan Criminal Court in New York City, police reported. The incident unfolded around 9:35 a.m. at 100 Centre St., Lower Manhattan, when the suspect charged at the officers.
In addition to the two officers who were directly attacked, a third officer sustained injuries after being thrown into a barrier during the chaos. Thankfully, all three are anticipated to survive their injuries.
A spokesperson for Mayor Eric Adams expressed gratitude for the rapid response of law enforcement, stating he was briefed on the situation and appreciates their efforts in apprehending the suspect responsible for this alarming attack.
