Jack Black is set to make a triumphant return to “Saturday Night Live” after nearly two decades on April 5, and the anticipation is keeping him up at night. The multi-talented actor, comedian, and musician recently stopped in London for the premiere of “A Minecraft Movie” before diving into the “SNL” writer’s room this week. In an interview with Variety, Black expressed his excitement and nerves about returning to Studio 8H for the first time since 2005 when he hosted to promote “King Kong.”
As Black prepares for the upcoming show, he revealed that he’s been experiencing a mix of nightmares, night terrors, and fond memories. He admitted that the unpredictable nature of the show means he has no idea where the sketches will take him, but he’s embracing the excitement of putting together a show in just one week.
Despite the time that has passed since his last hosting gig, Black expressed his admiration for the current “SNL” cast, referring to them as “all those kids.” He joked about being on the show before some of them were even born, except for fellow cast member Kenan Thompson.
In addition to his previous hosting stints in 2002 and 2003, Black will be promoting “A Minecraft Movie” during his upcoming appearance on “SNL.” In the film, Black takes on the role of expert crafter Steve, who teams up with a group of misfits as they navigate the game’s Overworld. Directed by Jared Hess, the movie features a talented cast including Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and newcomer Sebastian Hansen.
Prior to landing the role in “A Minecraft Movie,” Black shared that he was familiar with the game and had even dabbled in some Minecraft gaming. He also showcased his musical abilities in the film by performing the original song “I Feel Alive,” which he co-wrote with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. The song features Dave Grohl on drums and serves as the perfect ending to the movie, wrapping up the story in a memorable way.
Fans can catch “A Minecraft Movie” in theaters on April 4, courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures. With Jack Black at the helm, both the film and his upcoming “SNL” appearance are sure to be entertaining and unforgettable experiences for audiences.
