The second Side Story in Monster Hunter Stories 3, titled “A Request from Kol,” follows Gaul on a quest in Canalta Timberland. Upon completion, players receive a new weapon for Gaul and the Key to Combos. If you’re struggling with partner quests in MHS3, refer to our guides for assistance.
To begin the mission, players must first complete Sheparden’s main story mission. The objective is to locate a missing villager who set out on a hunting expedition a few days ago. Start by finding a group of Felyne search party members who went in search of the villager.
The search party will direct you towards Mt. Canalta, indicating that the villager went to confront a Yian Garuga in the Canalta Timberland skies. If you’ve completed Eleanor Side Story 2, you’ll know that the Yian Garuga habitat is atop Mt. Canalta. To reach the summit, head north from Cataracts Lookout Point, follow the stream west, climb the cliff on the left, and cross the fallen logs acting as bridges.
As you ascend, you’ll encounter an upward shaft of wind that can be used to glide to the mountain’s peak. Once there, you’ll discover a clue suggesting that the villager fell into a hole below. Drop down into the Frozen Grotto, head south, and take the left path at the first intersection to find the lost villager facing off against a Tetranadon. Defeat the monster to complete the side story.
Upon completing “A Request from Kol,” players receive several rewards, including Gaul’s new weapon, the Bow, Gaul Legia Developed with the “Tailwind” ability, and the Key to Combos, which grants additional items when combining.
