Social Media Trend: Creating Your Own AI Action Figure
Social media trends come and go, but the latest craze involves people showcasing action figures of themselves as if they were real merchandise. Known as the ‘Barbie Box’ trend, individuals are jumping on the bandwagon to create their own AI action figures and share them on platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn. These figures, reminiscent of Barbie or Action Man dolls, are made possible by a recent update to ChatGPT’s image model, although other image generators may also be capable of creating similar results.
Creating your own AI action figure is a simple and free process that can be completed in just a few steps. However, it’s important to remember that while this trend is fun, using a real artist for commercial purposes is recommended, as well as being mindful of the energy consumption associated with generating these images.
- Open ChatGPT and log in.
- Type “Make an action figure of me” in the prompt box.
- Provide ChatGPT with more information about how you’d like your action figure to look and upload a photo of yourself.
- Wait for the image to be generated.
- Request adjustments until you’re satisfied with the final result.
For example, I provided ChatGPT with details such as my title, catchphrase, clothing style, pose, accessories, and packaging, along with a photo of myself. After refining the image through six different versions, I was pleased with the end result. You can see a couple of iterations below.
- Title: Reviews Editor
- Catchphrase: ‘Too Many Phones’
- Clothing: Hipster tech clothes
- Pose: On a phone call
- Accessories: A camera, laptop, backpack
- Packaging: Retro packaging, like a collectible
