Howard Stern Cancels Disney+ Subscription in Protest of Jimmy Kimmel’s Suspension

In a bold move, Howard Stern revealed during Monday’s SiriusXM radio broadcast that he is terminating his Disney+ subscription. This decision comes in response to ABC’s suspension of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!“, with Disney being the parent company of ABC. Stern has joined a rising number of celebrities who are publicly voicing their discontent with Disney+ in the wake of Kimmel’s on-air removal, including figures such as Cynthia Nixon and Noah Centineo.

“As you know, ABC threw Jimmy [Kimmel] off the air,” stated Stern. “I’m unsure what their strategy is, but it certainly appears they may be contemplating firing him. My conversations with Jimmy have been primarily about his well-being; he did not provide clarity on his future. When the government begins to meddle, declaring ‘I’m not satisfied with you, so we’ll find a way to silence you,’ it signifies a troubling shift in our country.”

Stern continued, “This is particularly significant to me as I’ve faced similar challenges. It’s unfortunate that ABC finds itself in this predicament. They shouldn’t be in this circumstance. Someone needs to step up and vocalize, ‘Enough! We refuse to submit.’ It might sound absurd, but this morning I decided to cancel my Disney+ subscription. I’m expressing my disapproval of their treatment towards Jimmy through my wallet.”

Stern’s criticism echoes a broader backlash from notable entertainment personalities against ABC and Disney for pulling Kimmel off the air. Stephen Colbert referred to the decision as “blatant censorship” aimed at appeasing Donald Trump. Meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon expressed his support for Kimmel’s potential return and reaffirmed his commitment to making jokes about Trump despite any risk of censorship for “The Tonight Show.”

Joining the chorus, John Oliver also condemned Disney’s actions, emphasizing that capitulating to pressures from the FCC or the Trump administration is incredibly misguided. Oliver remarked, “If there’s one thing we’ve learned from this administration’s second term, it’s that submitting to a bully only encourages further demands. At some point, you need to establish boundaries. So, why not do it here? When faced with unreasonable demands, instead of giving in, perhaps it’s time to assertively state, ‘Fuck you, make me.’”
