Huishan Zhang Unveils His Resort Collection for Spring
Huishan Zhang has been hard at work on his resort collection, which he started working on in tandem with his spring collection, showcased last September. The designer expressed how working on both collections simultaneously allowed him to properly think things through and feel like he had more time to ideate. With several successful seasons under his belt, Zhang exudes confidence and a sense of being in his element. He has expanded his team, established a new studio in East London, and shared that everything is running smoothly.
Customers of Huishan Zhang will be delighted to see that the new collection stays true to his signature style. The resort collection features prim daytime separates crafted from bouclé and denim, some with faux-fur trims. Additionally, there are plenty of dresses in various volumes and finishes. Standout pieces from the collection include a feather-kissed, hand-embellished minidress lined with silk, a satin minidress adorned with embroidered crystals, and a maxi dress with a wing-like side train made from a new stretch fabric.
Zhang expressed his desire to create a unique design language with this collection, aiming to bring his woman’s portrait to life. This vision is evident in the incorporation of faux-leather elements and darker-toned looks, which continue the theme of “elegance versus rebellion” that he explored in the previous season. Drawing inspiration from the 1960s, the collection features silhouettes that exude a sense of sophistication and defiance.
For this collection, Zhang found inspiration in Nan Kempner, a fashion icon known for her bold choices. One of Kempner’s famous moments involved her removing her trousers when denied entry to a New York restaurant for not adhering to its dress code, instead opting to wear her Saint Laurent Le Smoking jacket as a dress. This rebellious spirit and fearless attitude are reflected in the designs of the resort collection.
