Denver International Airport Experiences Delays After Early Morning Storms

Hundreds of flights were delayed Tuesday morning at Denver International Airport after a wave of early morning storms, including up to tennis-ball-sized hail, swept across Colorado.

As of 7:10 a.m., 406 flights in and out of DIA had been delayed and none had been canceled, according to flight tracking data from FlightAware.

The majority of the delays, 324, were Southwest flights, according to FlightAware.

Other early morning delays included 21 SkyWest flights, 18 United flights, nine American Airlines flights, five Delta flights and five Frontier flights. Several other airlines delayed a handful of flights.

After the morning storms ended, the Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground delay at DIA for “low ceilings,” which refers to the lowest level of cloud cover, according to the agency’s website.

Flights were being delayed an average of 39 minutes at 7:10 a.m., and FAA officials said those wait times were expected to increase.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
