Blizzard Leaves Hundreds Stranded During Climb

A blizzard has trapped nearly 1,000 climbers on Mount Everest … while several hundred have managed to descend, many remain stranded.
According to the BBC, citing Chinese state media, search and rescue operations are in progress, with local authorities joining efforts to assist those stuck on the world’s highest peak.
Approximately 350 climbers have reached safety … yet a significant number are still facing harsh conditions on the mountain.
A significant snowfall began on Friday night … affecting the eastern slopes of the mountain in Tibet, a favored destination for trekkers. Authorities have reportedly established communication with those still on the ascent.
Additionally, the BBC notes that heavy rainfall in Nepal has caused landslides and flooding … resulting in the loss of 47 lives.
Climbing Everest is notoriously perilous … with over 400 climbers having perished in attempts to reach its summit.
