An ice resurfacing machine driver tragically dies in a collision at Fort Collins ice rink
An ice resurfacing machine driver lost their life last week in northern Colorado after colliding with an overhead door at a Fort Collins ice rink, city officials have confirmed.
The incident occurred at the Edora Pool Ice Center (EPIC) shortly after noon on Tuesday, as reported in a news release by the city of Fort Collins. The driver was injured when the resurfacing machine backed into a partially open overhead door at the rink. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the driver passed away from their injuries.
Although commonly known as Zambonis, the specific details of the machine involved in the crash have not been disclosed as of Sunday.
Fort Collins officials reassured that no other staff or visitors at EPIC were harmed in the accident. The victim’s identity will be released by the Larimer County Coronerās Office.
City Manager Kelly DiMartino expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, stating, āOur hearts go out to everyone affected and we are working to support their loved ones and coworkers.ā The city is currently investigating the circumstances leading to the collision and plans to update safety protocols accordingly.
