Glassriver, a prominent production banner from Iceland, has joined forces with Italian sales company True Colours to bring a new Nordic psychological thriller series to life. The series, titled “Brkn,” is based on Jón Atli Jónasson’s novel “Brotin” and follows an investigation into the disappearance of a nonbinary teenager.

Jón Atli Jónasson, a well-known novelist, playwright, and screenwriter, is co-creating the series alongside theater director Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson and screenwriter Margrét Örnólfsdóttir. The story revolves around female and male police officers Dóra and Rado as they search for the missing teenager, Morgan. The investigation leads them into a world of organized crime, corporate power, and police corruption. Dóra, who had recently returned to duty after a traumatic incident, and Rado find themselves facing a complex web of challenges as members of Rado’s family become suspects in the case.

Glassriver has secured a global distribution deal for “Brkn” with True Colours, who will handle the international distribution of the series currently in development. True Colours, co-owned by Indigo Film and Lucky Red, is expanding into the TV content space under the new management of Elliot Gustin-Hollman.

The “Brkn” series is the latest addition to Glassriver’s slate, which includes projects like “Avalanche,” a co-production with Finland’s Whatevergroup, the “Konráð” book series adaptation from Icelandic author Arnaldur Indriðason, and the comedy drama “Hot Stuff,” a co-production with Romania’s IDEA Film.

Andri Ómarsson, co-owner of Glassriver, expressed excitement about the partnership with True Colours, stating that “Brkn” pushes the boundaries of the Nordic crime genre with its distinctive and original storytelling. Elliot Gustin of True Colours also commented on the potential of the series, believing it will receive international acclaim and success.
